International Conference in Teramo, Italy: Second Days of Language Rights

The conference “Language Rights: Right to Acknowledgment, Right to Education” will take place At University of Teramo, Italy on May 21-22, 2008.

It will deal with the following topics:

• points of contact and conflict between the acknowledgement of language rights to groups of speakers and the acknowledgement of linguistic heritage only;
• successes and failures of carrying out international treaties and national law aimed at the promotion or safeguarding of language rights;
•  linguistic heritages within local development: only-token value or also an economic value?;
•  language education in Italy and Europe : outcome and perspectives;
• from the “language requirements” to the fulfilment of having a true linguistic education: the myths of a well-organized education and a reassessment of individual expectations;
• education in the field of regional and minority languages: problems and opportunities;
•  the role of linguistic education awareness within language education.  

The working languages of the Conference will be English, French, German, Italian, Occitan and Spanish.

The registration  is to be done by April 30, 2008.
